Opium coordinated the Centre of Portugal World Heritage Sites project. It was promoted by the Regional Entity of the Centre of Portugal in partnership with the municipalities such as Alcobaça, Batalha, Coimbra, Tomar and the University of Coimbra.

The project conveyed a range of initiatives on tourism offer qualification, promotion and communication, cultural programming and a mediation and heritage education programme.

Its implementation contributed greatly to tourist appreciation of the exceptional cultural, landscape and human heritage of Portugal’s Central Region, namely the one included on the UNESCO World Heritage list (Alcobaça Monastery, Convent of Christ in Tomar, Batalha Monastery and Alta e Sofia in Coimbra), through the creation of a common reference for intervention, improvement, and communication. On the other hand, the project mobilised populations involved in protecting and promoting region’s heritage, culture and tourism, strengthening their sense of belonging and raising their awareness to a sustainable intervention and partnership.
